- David Keith Mather, 77, of Drexel, passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019, after a long period of declining health. David was born Aug. 26, 1941 in Watertown, N.Y. After high school, David joined the Marine Corps for four years. In 1964, he moved to Washington, D.C., where he worked for The Washington Times Newspaper in transportation, and met his wife Millie. The couple moved to Burke County where David worked at a furniture factory and helped raise his three children. David was loved by his family and was appreciated for his love for people and humor. David is survived by his son, Keith Mather of Drexel; son-in-law, Eric Levinson of Youngsville; twin granddaughters, Erica Levinson Hamric and Lauren Levinson, of Raleigh. David was preceded in death by his wife, Millie Mather; daughter, Debbie Levinson; son Randy Mather; two brothers; and his father and mother. There will be a memorial service to celebrate David's life at Drexel First Baptist Church Saturday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m.
