    • William L. "Bill" Balensiefer, 70, of Remington, died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, July 17, 2011, at his residence. He had been in failing health for several months.

      He was born March 18, 1941, in Rensselaer, to the late Lee and Kathryn (Mather) Balensiefer.
      He graduated from Brook High School in 1959 and attended Purdue University in 1977 where he received his degree in professional engineering.

      He married Dorothy Marlene Hardebeck on Aug. 1, 1959, in Earl Park. She survives. The Balensiefers resided in Battle Ground for 18 years prior to moving to Remington.
      Mr. Balensiefer worked as an engineer, retiring from The Indiana State Highway Research and Development Department. He also was a proprietor of Captain's Table. Bill was the past president of the Battle Ground Lions Club, and a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He achieved rank of Eagle Scout in 1954, and continued being active in scouting.
      He enjoyed architectural design, intricate ship replica building, ancestry research, computer programming, home restoration, wood working, traveling and photography.

      Surviving with his wife are five children, William Balensiefer III (Wife: Cindy) of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Zenda Lanning (Husband: Roger) of Remington, Adah Farney (Companion: Ed Kyburz) of Wolcott, Heidi Hageman (Husband: Gary) of Fowler, Heather Waibel (Husband: Brent) of Wolcott.
      Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

      Bill had a blessed and fulfilling 70 years of life, 51 years of it spent with his loving wife. He cherished every moment with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always shared his wisdom with his friends and family. Bill will truly be missed by everyone whose life he touched and will rest comfortably in the arms of our Lord.

      Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. (EDT) Tuesday, July 19, at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home of Remington with the Rosary being said at 4:45 p.m. Friends also called from 10-10:45 a.m., Thursday, July 21, at St. Josephs Catholic Church of Kentland where a Funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m., with Father Robert Bernotas officiating. Interment followed at St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery.
